Right Seater

“Co-Captain” Training

Do you have a partner, spouse, family member, or friend who frequently flys in your right seat but is untrained (perhaps a little nervous about the “what-ifs”)?

In this course, your right-seater will learn how to survive an emergency situation if the PIC becomes incapacitated for any reason. The primary purpose of this course is learning how to survive if the PIC cannot function normally.

This course offers 5-10 hrs of basic ground and flight instruction in your plane or ours (out of KLRO or KGGE) in the basics of preflight planning, core flight skills, navigation, communication, and emergencies.  At the end of this course, your right-seater should feel capable of taxiing, executing a safe takeoff, climb/descent, level flight, basic turns, an emergency/survivable landing, basic functions of the radios/nav equipment, and basic interpretation of cockpit instruments. They will also learn how to check basic aviation weather and NOTAMs, help with the preflight, read and reference the POH and associated checklists, make emergency radio calls if necessary, and assist the PIC during an in-flight emergency with delegated tasks.

Work With Us

This course will also make flying with your right-seater more comfortable, more fun, and less stressful.  After all, this is supposed to be fun, right?  IT REALLY IS, and it’s also statistically safer than driving anywhere.  So, why not share the joy and adventure more comfortably? The course can be taught by a female or male instructor, each with four decades of safe and professional flight instruction experience in many different platforms.
